Celebrating Our Fathers and Special Male Role Models in our Lives
As we approach Father's Day, I find myself reflecting on the privilege it is to be the father of three beautiful daughters, Allira-Jayne, Ashleigh and Penelope. Being a father is one of the greatest challenges and also the greatest joy I have experienced. I hope that my girls grow up to remember me as a powerful, supportive and loving male influence in their lives.
I am deeply grateful for the values my father instilled in me. The love and care that fathers, grandfathers and other positive male role models provide are truly transformative, offering children a foundation of security and strength.
Spending time with our children and being present is the best investment of time we can have as fathers. It's in these moments that we build trust, create memories, and nurture the bonds that will last a lifetime.
As we honour our fathers and special males in our lives this Father's Day, let us also remember the ultimate example of a loving father, Jesus Christ. His love is perfect, patient, and unconditional, serving as a guide for all of us in our relationships with our children. In John 15:9, Jesus says, "As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love." This verse reminds us of the deep and abiding love that Jesus has for us, a love that we are called to reflect in our own lives as fathers, grandfathers, and male role models.
This Father's Day, let's celebrate the gift of fatherhood and the incredible impact that love, presence and positive influence can have on our children's lives.

The potato people
Kinder has been looking at the book 'The Potato People' by Pamela Allen for their storybook sessions. During this time, “TAMBOURINES AND TREACLE TARTS!” was exclaimed by the students every time we read it. They enjoyed the repetition of the words and developed an interest in all thing’s potatoes. They made their own potato people with playdough and used our developing writing skills to make labels. They watched a Farmer George clip on how potatoes were grown and drew our own pictures. Henry's mum came in to visit and talk about potatoes and the process potatoes go through to turn into them into French fries.
BOOK WEEK
During Book Week, Year 1 enjoyed reading the book 'Your head’s not the place to store problems in' by Josh Pyke. This book explains how children should voice their worries or problems and only store good memories in their head. The illustrations in this book are fantastic and really helped the students understand what it can look like to overfill your brains with worries. The students created amazing artwork that showed the happy things they like to store in their brains.
PBL
We have come to the end of our PBL unit but not our mission to stay connected and continue to build relationships with the UPA in Jindera. The students have thoroughly enjoyed this unit. They have built genuine relationships with the residents and have loved spending time with them playing games, talking and drawing with them.
DESIGN LAB
The Year 2s loved creating many different sporting fields, equipment, areas and symbols for the 2024 Paris Olympics using Lego.
MATHMATICS
In Mathematics, students have been enjoying the hands-on activities when exploring mass. We made our own equal arm balances and selected an appropriate uniform informal unit to measure the mass of objects and recorded our results.
PBL
This week our Year 2s will be going for a walk around Jindera, exploring significant places and discovering people who work there. As a lead up to this activity, we have been learning about people who work in the community and what their roles are.
PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE
We are so proud of our Year 2s who have all managed to complete the Premier's Reading Challenge. Students have loved our library time where they have been reading a variety of picture books individually or with partners and uploading them to their login. Thank you, Mrs T, for inspiring us to read more and setting the challenge.
WEEK 6
The Year 3/4 students were surprised after watching ‘That Sugar Film’. Did you know that sugar is addictive, hidden in most of our foods, affects our moods and leads to so many problems in our health?
We started the afternoon by measuring how many teaspoons of sugar were found in a can of Coke. We counted 10 teaspoons of sugar!! When examining labels, 4 grams of sugar equals 1 teaspoon of sugar. We were surprised to find so much sugar in everyday foods.
After collecting empty cans of soft drinks (thank you to those families who contributed), the students used the cans to create abstract faces. The art lesson focused on: line, patterns, colour and of course, using a recycled can for the ‘face’. It was a lot of fun being creative and they look bright and colourful on our classroom wall.
Week 6
The highlight of Week 5 was the school Book Week Parade. The students all put in a lot of thought, creativity and organisation into their costumes. It was terrific to see everyone confidently parading their costumes and having fun on the catwalk. In PBL, we are continuing to learn more about the ways that the foods we eat impact our bodies. On Friday we watched parts of 'The Sugar Film' and investigated the hidden sugars found in our everyday foods. We will continue looking at what’s in the packaged foods we eat this week. We are asking students to bring in the nutritional labels and packaging of everyday food items to help with our investigations.
GEOMETRIC PATERNS
This week in Maths, we’ve been looking at different shapes and the patterns we can create with them. To explore the class’s creative side, we gave them the opportunity to create any type of pattern they wanted using any shapes they wanted. Afterwards, we had a look at all of the groups’ work and they explained their thought-process as to how they came up with their patterns.
Canberra Camp
Year 5/6 students from our school have recently undertaken an education tour of the national capital. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributes funding of $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
MATHS FUN
We are always enjoying making learning as hands-on as possible in Maths and finding how it can relate to real life. The Olympics have been a great opportunity to investigate a range of data. In addition to this, the Year 5s have been outside collecting data while Year 6s have been making geometric patterns.
Flu season
It's that time of year again when coughs, colds and covid are about in the community.
NSW Health advise we are currently in the moderate level of COVID-19.
For everyone to stay well this season please follow the recommendations of the NSW Government and keep your child home when sick.

This week:
This week we celebrated Book Week! We embraced it with lots of fun activities and crafts every day! We got very creative with making our own comic strips on Monday, although a few of us weren’t entirely sure on what the concept of a comic strip was…they absolutely gave it their all and, in the end, they turned out great! We also got to make our very own book characters and every day we searched high and low for some 'Where’s Wally' characters that were hidden around the room! On Wednesday, we kept it simple for second snack, making mini pizzas on English muffins and adding lots of yummy toppings😊. On Thursday, we celebrated Book Week with a whole school book parade; there were some amazing costumes! In the afternoon, we spent some time outside and, in the hall, playing lots of group games and sports. Lastly on Friday, to finish off Book Week, on Friday morning we gave it our all in a book character colouring in competition and in the afternoon, we watched a movie of our choice while we enjoyed some popcorn! 😊
Next week:
Next week's theme is Outer Space!! This has proven to be a popular choice in the past, so we are hoping for a positive response this time round! 😊 We have lots of crafts planned this week; to start, we will be making spaceships out of paddle pop sticks, button planets and handprint rocket ships! On Wednesday, we have decided not to cook but rather decorate! We are going to be decorating some Arrowroot biscuits with different coloured icing, chocolate and space sprinkles!!! We are making our own space creations 😊. On Thursday, we will spend some time out in the hall and outside playing a range of different games. Lastly to finish of the week, Friday will be spent with a movie, as usual, and some popcorn!!! 😊
This Week:
This week’s theme was Children’s Voices! We participated in some fun crafts and activities that had been hits with the children in the past, like crumpled paper turtles, oil pastel animals and DIY paper robots 😊. We found ourselves soaking up the sun once again, playing outside on the oval and playground! On Wednesday, we had a bit of a picnic outside while we ate our fruit platter 😊. Then for second snack, we baked some sweet scones, with raspberry jam and cream! They were loved by all! 😊 On Thursday we put our creativity to the test, making some cool creations out of recycled materials! We also spent time out in the hall playing some group games and sports! And lastly on Friday, we had a fun colouring competition in the morning and a movie and some popcorn to finish off our afternoon! 😊 Overall, it was a great week! It's fair to say I think we are all looking forward to more warm weather!
Currently we have an increased number of cases of head lice presenting at school. Please click here for a fact sheet of treatments and preventative measures which may be a support to families. If head lice is detected at school, home will be contacted. In line with school expectations, any child with below shoulder length hair is required to tie their hair back while at school. Please ensure if your child has longer hair it is tied back for the school day.
