Term Three
Dear St John’s Families,
Welcome back to a new school term! It feels so much better seeing our school filled with the energy and enthusiasm of our students once again. We look forward to a term brimming with opportunities for learning, growth, and inspiration.
As I write this newsletter, I am collaborating with other Lutheran Principals at the 2024 Lutheran Principals of Australia Conference. It has been a time of quality learning and inspiration from keynote speakers, guiding reflections and discussions around the importance of our schools and the power of being in a strong learning community. We have also focused on the importance of being a calming and safe place for our students, staff and families.
In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, it is wise to remember the importance of finding our 'still waters,' as described in Psalm 23:2, "He leads me beside still waters; He restores my soul." These still waters symbolise moments of tranquillity and reflection, where we can pause and reconnect with God’s presence.
These quiet times are essential for nurturing our spiritual health, fostering a sense of gratitude for the blessings we receive, and experiencing the grace that God so freely offers.
As we continue our journey together, let us seek out these still waters, allowing them to restore our souls and fill our hearts with gratitude and grace. By doing so, we strengthen our community and deepen our connection to God’s love.
Yours in Christian service,
Brad Moss
Principal

School Happenings!
Welcome back to our third term! We loved catching up with staff and students and hearing what we all did during the holidays. Last week families were emailed class letters outlining the learning and activities that will take place.
Numeracy Parent Information Session
Since the beginning of this year, our teaching and learning staff have been engaged in the AISNSW Primary Numeracy Project, a comprehensive professional learning package designed to support us with the explicit and systematic teaching of numeracy skills.
We are delighted to invite parents to a one-hour Parent workshop on Wednesday 14 August (6:15 – 7:30pm).
This practical session, led by Fiona Walker who is the AISNSW Consultant working with our staff this year, will introduce you to the additive and multiplicative strategies taught at school from Kindergarten to Year 6. It will show how you can assist your child at home to develop strong number sense and broaden your understanding of what it takes to become a successful mathematician. Resources and websites that can be used at home will also be shared. This session is designed with parents in mind, we therefore encourage you to make alternative care arrangements for your children during this time if you wish to attend.
Please RSVP before Friday 9th August so that we can ensure enough resources are available.
Green & Gold Casual Clothes Day and Kids for Cancer Fundraiser
Last week all school families were emailed about Green & Gold Casual Clothes Day that is happening this Friday 2nd August. The Australian Olympic Team has encouraged schools and organisation all over Australia on this day to show our support. Students are encouraged to bring a gold coin donation that will go towards a fundraiser for Kids for Cancer, initiated by our Year 4 student, Cruz Smith, and his family. Cruz will be having his hair cut on 14th August – the email you received included a QR code for further donations school families would like to make. A story about Cruz’s fundraiser that was filmed at St John’s aired on channel 7, which was exciting! We’re so proud of Cruz for putting his compassion into action.
Partnership Meetings
Next week, families will receive an email with instructions on how to book an appointment for Partnership Meetings which will be held on Tuesday 20th & Wednesday 21st August. The purpose of these meetings is for parents and staff to discuss student academic progress based on their Semester 1 report. It is optional for students from Years 3-6 to attend these meetings and take part in this valuable discussion about their learning.
Albury Wodonga Eisteddfod
Our school choir performed at the Albury Wodonga Eisteddfod this Thursday. We love the fact that our choir consists of students from all year levels. A huge thank you to Mrs Aiyana Eames, our Creative Arts teacher, for her enthusiasm and passion in setting up our choir and preparing our students for their beautiful performance.
Gould Swimming
What a wonderful week this has been with our K-2 students participating in swimming lessons at Gould Swim Academy. Thanks to our school families for making sure swimming gear came to school each day!
RAS Athletics Carnival
This Friday we have students competed in interschool (RAS) athletics at Les O’Brien Athletics Precinct in Albury. We celebrate their achievement in making it to this level and cheer them on in giving their best efforts, hoping they have a fantastic day representing St John’s.

German Night - Friday 2 August
Did you know that the Lutheran Church started in Germany?
Did you know that the Germans are a big part of the history of Jindera?
This weekend the Jindera Museum is running their ‘Illuminate our Heritage’ and ‘Lantern Walk’, both celebrating German culture.
To connect with the celebrations, this Friday we will be looking at the German history of the Lutheran Church, trying German food, and making lanterns you can bring to Saturday’s Lantern Walk!
Feel free to wear traditional German clothes or to bring German souvenirs if you have them!

POETRY
Last week the Year Two’s learnt about adverbs. They had to think of an adverb and had to think about different things that we can do in that way for each line of the poem. The students were challenged to think of a different verb for each line.
It’s wonderful to see students in the playground having fun connecting through play… a group of girls on the twirly play equipment that spins, groups on the courts playing basketball and netball. Lots of running, turn-taking, playing by the rules, competing and being inclusive.
This term during P.E, Mrs H is focusing on Netball. During sport, the Year 3/4 classes enjoyed joining together to play ball games. There was lots of practice shooting goals and running in a game of Golden Child.
While being timed, Toby proudly shows the class how he solves his Rubrik’s cube. What great persistence!
Week 2 Term 3
Students are off to a great start with their learning this term. The class worked on a symbol hunt in English, which lead to discovering symbolism in our class book ‘Piano Fingers’. During playtimes Base Building continues to be a favourite.
Flu season
It's that time of year again when coughs, colds and covid are about in the community.
NSW Health advise we are currently in the moderate level of COVID-19.

They turned out so cool!!! And for the afternoon we did a little bit of cooking and preparing, by making some mini pizzas on English muffins!! They were an absolute hit! Loved by all the kids😊On the Thursday we continue with our theme by using our thumb prints to create ballons for our own UP Houses!! They were very colourful! we also made some traditional paper plate mini and mickeys!! To finish off our first week back at school, we have ended things on a chill note with a movie Friday afternoon and some popcorn!! Overall, a successful and fun first week back😊

Another holiday program done and dusted for 2024! I’m sure a lot of families and children can relate, but wow did these two weeks fly by! Must have been because of all the fun we were having. The theme for HP was time warp and revolved heavily around interactive activities and creating which was a hit for most students!

On Wednesday we did some dino digging, although it was very messy! 😊 the kids absolutely loved it, they were giving their absolute all to find their little dinos! Part of Thursday was spent at the movies, we watched inside out 2, which was definitely a favourite for all! The popcorn also went down a treat! 😊Overall, a fun filled first week of holidays! 😊
Week 2 We started the week off with a day full of rhythm, we emerged ourselves into absolutely everything music, with lots of fun dancing games and a great game of limbo, which the kids all loved! 😊Tuesday and Thursday were our incursion days, on Tuesday we spent our time at school doing some fun science experiments, creating some crazy explosions 😊and on Thursday we had a lovely lady join us at school to teach us all a little about the Olympics!
