Story Time

Story time at St John’s is free and available to the entire community.

(Story time is commencing Thursday 8th February 2018 at 9.30 – see you then)

Every Thursday morning from 9.30 am until 10.30 am, parents and children under 5 years old are invited to come along and hear a different story being read each week.

After listening to each story teller share the story, which is usually a different person each week – the children then get to take part in a variety of activities planned around that particular book. The children especially love doing the craft and best of all, it’s all FREE!

The school’s Library staff love seeing the parents and children engrossed in the stories and craft activities that are prepared for each session. There is a lot of laughter and fun is had by all. Our aim is to have a warm and welcoming atmosphere and to provide our local families with a wonderful service free of charge.

One parent said that “it is fantastic that St John’s does this for the community. It is so great not to need to travel all the way into Lavington for this. I hope this wonderful time stays”, and the school fully intends for it to be around for a long time!

As Jindera does not have its own Library, St John’s thought that it would be a good idea to share theirs and so have opened it up to the community. Those parents attending Story time are invited to become members of St John’s library (free of charge) and they are then able to borrow new books from the library each and every week.

Mrs Jo loves seeing the parents enjoy spending time together with their child over a good book! She says “It’s also good to see the parents enjoying doing the craft just as much as the children!!”

Principal, Sharon Kotzur, says “Story time has been a huge success. We have enjoyed opening up our school to members of the wider community and are happy to be able to provide this enjoyable service free of charge to all who see the value of sharing the joy of reading with their children. To see the absolute joy on the faces of the children and parents as they take part in this service, is certainly reward enough.”

Each week, on average, 20 + children and 20 + parents attend. Those attending are a combination of parents from the Jindera and surrounding community as well as those whose family already attends St John’s.

All members of the community are invited to attend each week from 9.30 -10.30 am and to become members of the St John’s school library.
